Product Review: Bite Block Insect Repellent Lotion

Bite Block Insect Repellent Lotion
DEET-Free Insect Repellent

Rainy Season means Dengue Fever Season. A big Red Flag for an expectant mom like me. I would not risk suffering from any form of illness at this stage, which is why I'm extremely cautious with my health and well-being (well, minus the sleeplessness and uncontrollable workaholic urge). I have been diligently cleaning and emptying any potential nesting grounds for mosquito eggs and replacing water in my plant vases. But lately, I've been getting so many insect bites wherever I go. So, I've decided to arm myself against these nasty bugs.

Before I bought a particular product, I researched on the chemicals it contains and it's effects on pregnant women and babies. I decided to buy Bite Block Insect Repellent Lotion because it doesn't contain DEET, unlike other leading brands, and provides the longest protection.

DEET free Bite Block Insect Repellent Lotion

Because I have extremely sensitive skin, I use Bite Block for Kids. It's mild, hypoallergenic, and DEET-Free. It has 10% Picaridin, which is generally safe for pregnant women and on children. It provides me with long-lasting protection, which allows me to have uninterrupted hours of sleep (I seriously need this, as I've been having trouble sleeping lately).

DEET-free Bite Block Insect Repellent Lotion for kids

I've been using it for 4 days now, and though I have extremely sensitive skin, so far, I haven't experienced any allergic-reactions and insect/mosquito bites. I love how it's non-greasy and doesn't feel sticky, despite the extremely hot and humid weather we've been experiencing lately. You know how a pregnant woman's body temperature is, add up the hot and humid climate, plus a sticky feel equals DISASTER.

The only thing I don't like about it is the fragrance. I personally think the smell is nauseating and overpowering. Sensitive pregnant senses or not, I think it's still too much, considering it's made for kids. NOTE: Fragrance + Hyper Kid's Sweat Smell = Funky, Stinky Kid. The fragrance could use some toning down.

Final Verdict?
I still love it, despite the over-powering smell. My supply just ran out last night, and I'm stocking up on 2 more bottles for the Rainy Days ahead.

Bite Block Insect Repellent Lotion retails at P 154.75 (100 ml) and P 90.25 (50ml).

  1. Is this good? I currently use Human Heart Nature Citronella Bug Spray. And it's effective. Have you tried that? :)

    1. Yes, it's pretty good. I'm just not too keen on the fragrance. Smells very lotion-y. Haven't tried the Citronella bug Spray but I've been meaning to, since I haven't bought another bottle of Bite Block. I have sensitive skin din kasi so I'm very careful with products that contain fragrances and essential oils. How long does the spray last? :)
